About fencing

British Fencing is the governing body for the sport of fencing in the UK. It operates, from grassroots level up, to develop and support a strong, successful and sustainable fencing community that inspires and enables people to start, stay and succeed in fencing.

Its objectives include building a pathway to international success, fostering accessible inclusive swordplay opportunities delivered via partnership programmes, and to work towards a sustainable future supported by high quality governance and infrastructure that is financially resilient.

Download the Explore Fencing app

The Explore Fencing App is a free-to-download, customisable and interactive app that introduces fencing skills through games. The first version has three free games, with plenty more to come.

Are you a first-time fencer, or have you fenced once or twice and want to know more? The Explore Fencing side of the app is for you:

  • Watch top GBR fencers introduce you to the basics and start you off with games to try at home.
  • Each game has a description, a how-to guide, and a video showing you how to play.
  • There are top tips, progression ideas, and fun facts to find.
  • Master the games to develop your appreciation and skill level for fencing. Our favorite game is ‘Step Lunge’, try it today.

This activity is a great way to engage young people in something different and can be developed easily by introducing swords if you would like or keeping it non-sword based and more structured i.e. create a leaderboard for the Step-Lunge game.
